Slinging practice and improvement thread.
http://goldismoney.info/forums/showthread.php?t=412706 Some people seemed interested in slinging. Since I'm carrying one in my mini survival kit, I want to be good enough to hit a squirrel from 20, yards 3 out of five times by next spring, (March 20). I thought this could be a good thread to encourage each other to learn a new (ancient) skill or sharpen one.
Using an over hand throw, I'm hitting a 20 oz water bottle 1 in 5 times from 7 yards. I'm now using a 30" sling (from the end of the loop to the pouch). I'm 6'3" tall. This seems to be a good compromise between power and accuracy. I'm practicing 15 -30 minutes a day, 5 days a week with my daughters. Feel free to post as you improve. |
Re: Slinging practice and improvement thread.
I just moved last week from phoenix to west virgina, but I had a little time to practice with the slings I made and pictured in that last thread.
My slings are both pretty short, I think if I make a longer one I can throw it further. I was surprised with the lack of range I had with the sling, maybe 30-40 yards. I was throwing a 4oz lead football shaped sinker. Because of the move I haven't had time to practice too much, but I will try to get some more in once I get settled into my new job and new house. |
